CULTURE
Soil temperature: 70+ degrees fahrenheit
Germination lighting: Light
Germination days: 14 days
Seed Depth: 1/6 inch
Plant spread: 6"
Plant height: 6"
Zones: 3-9
Plant type: Annual
Maturation days: 60 days
Annual Lobelia is easy to sow, but it does take 60 days after germination to flower. These seeds are very tiny and hard to handle so we suggest you mix your seed packet with 1/4 cup of fine sand and use a shaker to evenly spread your seed mix.
If direct sowing in Spring in the garden use the shaker to spread your seed/sand mix on top of your prepared garden bed. Do not cover this mix with any soil or peat. Keep moist during this germination process and problems with germination usually occur in dry condition. Do not attempt to direct sow in late spring or summer heat.
We find better results when starting in pots. Use the seed/sand method described above and place under lights. Keep you seed bed moist, letting your potting material dry out during the germination phase will ensure little or no germination. Once your seedlings are 2" tall transplant them into the garden in spring after your last frost.
