In late spring loosen enriched garden soil down to a 6" depth. Best direct seeded once the temperature reaches a consistent 70 degrees. Scatter on the surface and lightly dust with peat as they need light to germinate. Once germinated thin to 12".
Please note that marigolds are more of a warm weather seed and to properly germinate your soil temps need to be at least 70 degrees. Sowing marigolds in outdoor early spring when temps are cooler at night can cause reduced or no germination. If you want to start them in early spring start in pots and use a germination heat mat to ensure your soil temps stay above 70. Transplant after your last frost date in spring.
