Royal variety Sweet Peas are very hardy in the garden and also make a great cut flower with a long vase life. Unlike other Sweet Peas the Royal varieties create flowers on a very long stem more suitable for using as cut flowers.

Another method is to soak them for 24 hours, but we have found the nicking method to work best. When picking your garden spot they don't like soggy roots so pick a spot with high ground. A good alternative would be to build your bed up slightly higher than normal. When the summer heat starts be sure and water frequently. Sweet pea are proficient bloomers and once you see the first buds form it is time to reapply compost with added bone meal to the base of the plants.
