For zones 5-9 Swiss Giants pansy are best started in late fall by sowing into your garden and then topping with 1/4" of peat or compost.

For spring planting - Cold treat these for 30 days by adding your seeds to 1/4 cup of peat or sand, and 1 tbs of water, and placing your mix in your refrigerator (not freezer). After the cold treatment let them dry on your counter and then sow into your garden late winter or early in pots. Pansies do not like to be transplanted so it best to use 4" pots, or compostable peat pots, so as to not disturb the roots.

As mentioned above pansies are a cool weather flower and in most zones they will not grow in hot late spring or summer weather.
