For zones 4-9 Chamomile is very easy to direct sow. In spring loosen enriched garden soil down to a 6" depth and sow after your last frost in early spring. These seeds are very tiny so you can use the shaker method to spread them, or mix your seeds with peat and spread to avoid clumping. Flowers will appear from mid summer to early fall.

Uses:

  • Anti-inflammatory and Pain Relief: Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, extracts have shown potential in reducing pain and stiffness associated with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Activity: Help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals. Lab studies have also indicated that its essential oil and extracts have antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties.
  • Anxiety: Calms anxiety due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds, especially apigenin, which interacts with brain receptors.
  • Other Conditions:  It also supports heart health, helps manage blood sugar, boosts immunity, and offers skincare advantages like soothing irritation, healing minor wounds, and fighting acne.

How to Use:

  • Tea: Steep 1 tablespoon of dried leaves and/or flowers in 8 ounces of hot water.
  • Essential Oil: Infuse dried chamomile flowers in a carrier oil (like sweet almond, jojoba, or olive oil) in a sealed jar for several weeks, using either the sun-infusion (sunny window) or gentle heat method (slow cooker), then strain thoroughly and store in a dark glass bottle. Always ensure flowers are completely dry to prevent rancidity and use a clean jar for a long-lasting, skin-soothing infusion.
