Ornamental Kale is the perfect choice to bring color to your garden from fall to spring. Like other varieties of Kale it is not happy in zones with high summer heat, but will grow in summer in cooler zones where summer temps stay 80 or below. Cold safe down to 5 degrees during winter. Once temps drop below 50 degrees the flower color will intensify.
Kale requires light to germinate so if starting in pots sow on the surface of your potting mix and lightly dust with fine sand, or vermiculite, and expose to light. If direct sowing in your garden sow on the surface of your garden bed and lightly dust with screened peat. While edible this variety of Kale is very bitter.
