California poppies are much different than the other poppy seeds we sell. The major difference is they do not require any cold treatment and will work in zones 3-12 even if you do not have a cold winter.
We don't recommend starting early in pots as they dislike being transplanted. Best way to start these is to direct sow them in very early spring. Mix you seeds with one cup of screened peat and lightly spread over your garden area. These need light to germinate so spread you mix very thinly.
Like all poppies they dislike hot summer weather and will not germinate in late spring or summer warm weather.
