For zones 3-12 green bush beans are a staple in your Organic garden and prefer full sun. Wait for the temperatures to be a consistent 60-70 degrees, for a couple of weeks, before direct sowing in the garden. In the spring work your garden soil 6" deep and sow seeds 1" deep and 3" apart. Sprinkling an inoculant in the soil will help the beans' nitrogen-fixing ability. Bush beans grow well in the heat of summer and will thrive in well drained soil. In contrast to pole beans growing long vines that need to be on a pole, bush beans create a 2 foot tall bush, which works well for containers. For sowing in a container, space the seeds 3 inches apart and at least 2 inches from the side of the pot.
